Windows 10 FREE Upgrade

This video will show you all you need to know about the Windows 10 FREE Upgrade.

Hi All,
Some of you may know about the Windows 10 FREE Upgrade. Basically Microsoft is giving all users of Windows 7 and Windows 8 the chance to upgrade to the latest Windows 10.
Now there was some murmurs on the internet that Microsoft was going to allow people who had illegal copy’s of Windows to upgrade however this doesn’t seem to be the case after all.

So how do you get your Windows 10 FREE Upgrade? Well eligible devices should get the Windows 10 app pop up in the taskbar of the computer you are on.
Something simular to the picture below.

Windows 10 FREE Upgrade

Once you have that pop up you should be able to go through and reserve a copy of Windows 10 and you will have the option to go and download the update once it is released on 29th July 2015. You can also check your Control Panel Windows updates and possibly update your Windows from there.
The layout has changed quite a fair bit from the original version of the Windows 10 Technical Preview version I posted up on the Downloads section of the 123myIT.com website some months ago.
And to make that download sweeter, I tested it the Windows 10 Insider Preview ISO June 2015 Update version and it allows you to personalise the Windows 10. Something which was not possible on previous versions of the preview copy’s.

Upgrade Path
Ok so lets take a look at what Microsoft says devices that will be allowed a Free Upgrade.

Windows 10 Upgrade Path

This picture above shows the upgrade path for Windows devices. You can find this graph on the Microsoft 10 FAQ & Tips webpage.

The upgrade path for Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic and Home Premium will upgrade to Windows 10 Home.
Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate will upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.

Windows Phone 8.1 to Windows 10 Mobile
Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 Home
Windows 8.1 Pro and Windows 8.1 Pro Student will upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.

Cant wait for this to happen.
Cheers

Transfer data from old phone to new phone Android

This video will show you how to Transfer data from old phone to new phone Android.

Hi All, recently I upgraded my Android phone from the Samsung Galaxy S5 to the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and I am slowly working through a few issues that I found when setting up the new phone.
One of those issues was a problem with Gmail contacts getting mixed up with my person phone contacts. Find that video here. Delete Gmail contacts from Android.

So how do you Transfer data from old phone to new phone on Android? Well in this video I use an application called Samsung Smart Switch, which is an app that is available on the Google Play website. It allows you to Transfer data from your old phone to your new phone without the need to plug into another computer.
And it also supports moving from IOS to Android and Android to IOS.

Samsung Smart Switch App

The process is pretty straight forward, simply download the Samsung Smart Switch app on both the old device and the new device. Start the Samsung Smart Switch app up on both devices and select the type of OS, so either IOS for Apple Devices devices or Android for Android devices. and then tap the Start button.

Next you will need to set the old device to sending and the new device to Receiving. The two phones should hopefully see each other by now and automatically connect to one another.
Select the data that you want to move from your old phone to your new phone by leaving the check boxes ticked. If there is any data that you don’t want to copy to your new phone, simply remove the tick from the checkbox.

Once done you should be good to go. Just remember that the time it takes to copy data across depends on the speed of your phones and how much data you wish to transfer. For me it was about 4GB and that would take around 40 mins.

I hope this helps out.
Good luck
Matt

Delete Gmail contacts from Android

This video will show you how to Delete Gmail contacts from Android phone.

Hi All,
Recently I was able to get my hands on Samsung’s latest model of Galaxy phone the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and after wanting to take some pictures with it to post up on 123myIT Instagram I went to the Google Play store to download the Instagram App. Sounds pretty straight forward right ?
Well some where along the line I entered the 123myIT Google play login details and Gmail decided that I also needed that Gmail account setup on my phone. Maybe I clicked accept to something I shouldn’t have? However I found this very intrusive because not only did it install an unwanted Gmail account, it also installed also installed all my 123myIT Gmail contacts into my phone contacts. Very Annoying, because I have over 80 contacts who, I don’t need to contact via my mobile phone.

84 Gmail Contacts

The big question is, how do I delete Gmail contacts from Android? Well the easy option is to go into Settings > Accounts section on the phone and delete the Gmail account. This will remove both the Gmail email and contacts from your phone. But what if you want to keep the Gmail account but not be burdened with all the Gmail contacts?

Well you can turn off the contacts Sync, by going into the Settings > Accounts go into the Google account tap on your Google account and you will have the follow toggle switches below.

Gmail Settings Android
Once you turn off the contacts sync, you can then go back into your contact and delete the contacts one by one.

If you have 1000 contacts, then this is usually not an option for you. If this is the case you will need to remove the Gmail account altogether and start from the beginning. In the video above I will show you how to add the Gmail account without Syncing the Gmail contacts by making use of the fight mode setting.

I hope this delete Gmail contacts guide was helpful for some. I found this quite frustrating as I am sure there are others out there with the same issue.

Thanks for watching

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Unboxing & Firstlook

This video will show you the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Unboxing & Firstlook.

Hi All,
I am pretty excited to bring you this unboxing of the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 tablet / laptop replacement. I have been a fan of this model since Microsoft release the first Surface Pro, but never actually had the chance to own one. I do allot of the 123myIT website work on a bigger Asus G750JS-TS71, however I hope to feature the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 in upcoming 123myIT videos.

One of the first things you will notice in the video is right out of the box I am prompted to upgrade my Windows 8.1 pro version to Windows 10, or at least reserve my copy of Windows 10. And with one tap of the screen this is done. So I was really impressed with this service. If I didn’t want to reserve a copy then I could have just press the skip button.

Surface Pro 3 - Windows 10 Uprade

Below is the following specs for the Surface Pro 3 models, the model used in the video above Was the base model 64GB model starting a RRP of $799.
Specs:
CPU: Intel Core i3 @ 1.5Ghz 64bit
Intel Core i5 @ 1.9Ghz 64bit CPU Max 2.9GHz (w/ turbo)
Intel Core i7 @ 1.7Ghz 64bit CPU Max 3.3GHz (w/ turbo)
RAM: 4GB or 8GB
Storage: 64GB or 128GB storage with 4GB RAM
256GB or 512GB storage with 8GB RAM
Display: Screen: 12” ClearType Full HD Plus
Resolution: 2160 x 1440
Aspect Ratio: 3:2
Touch: Multi-touch

Cameras, Video and Audio: 5.0 megapixel rear-facing camera
5.0 megapixel front-facing camera, Stereo microphones, Stereo speakers with Dolby® sound

You also do get a pen that works with the Surface Pro 3, but you don’t get the Surface Pro Type Cover. This keyboard / cover is an option extra and current RRP is $129.99. So not cheap the total cost is $928.99. And this is only for the base model. However having said that if you are on a budget you can always opt for the Surface Pro 2, $899 or Surface 3 $499, Surface 2, $499.

Is it worth it?
When people ask me to which laptop should they buy I always ask them how are they going to use it what are they going to use it for? The Surface Pro 3 would be great for anyone looking for a tablet or laptop, that is very portable. Throw in the extra function of a pen and keyboard and it would be a great laptop replacement. The Surface Pro 3 might play some games, however if you are looking for a laptop to play games on your might get better bang for your buck elsewhere.
One of the other benefits is that you get a full version of Windows, not a cut down version of operating system. This means that the software running on your Surface Pro 3, is exactly the same as the software running on your Desktop computer.

Apple iPad Air 2 Unboxing & Review

This video will show you the Apple iPad Air 2 Unboxing & Review.

Hi All,
I recently got Apple’s latest iPad Air 2 and thought I would do and unboxing and review to show those of you who are thinking about buying one what to expect when you do go through with the purchase.
Overall I was pretty impressed with this version its very light and thin as you can imagine. 6.1mm thin to be exact and weighing 0.96 pound.

The iPad Air 2 comes in three different colours Silver, Gold and Space Grey. With Storage sizes of 16GB, 64GB and 128GB respectively and you have a choice of WIFI or WIFI + Cellular.

iPad Air 2

At the time of writing this article prices start at $499 for the 16GB Wifi model and go all the way up to $829 for the top of the range 128GB cellular model.
The iPad Air 2 comes standard with the latest Retina display, which is a 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit widescreen Multi-Touch display with IPS technology at 2048-by-1536-pixel resolution at 264 ppi.
The display has a Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic and Antireflective coating which is fully laminated. The screen doesn’t fracture the images as much as previous models giving the user a much improved viewing experience.

All iPad Air 2’s have the A8X CPU with 64-bit architecture and a M8 motion coprocessor. The iPad Air 2, comes with 8MP iSight camera, some features are Burst mode, Tap Focus, Timer mode and Photo geotagging. The iSight camera allows HD video recording at 1080p (30 fps) and Slo-mo at (120 fps). and also features Time-lapse video, Video image stabilization, Improved face detection and 3x video zoom.

Lastly one of the other big upgrades is Touch ID which allows you to log into the iPad with the need for a passcode.
Over all pretty impress look and feel to Apples latest iPad, while I wouldn’t rush out and buy one myself. If you are in the market for a new tablet you would have to at least take a look at it.
